Jesus sent the 72 only after teaching that followership meant homelessness, social distress, & single-mindedness.
02Urgency and agency
The urgency of a field ready for harvest ought not produce anxious work but active trust in the primary agency of the Lord of the Harvest.
03Keeping company with the sick
Those sent to “heal the sick” keep a particular type of company that is quite different than that kept by those set on “changing the world.”
04Eating local flavors of mission
To “eat whatever is offered” means not only to receive a worker’s wage but also to embrace locally-flavored contributions to the mission.
05Announcing a Kingdom come near
The 72 announced the nearness of a kingdom they demonstrated by offering peace, staying put, eating what was offered, and healing the sick.
